Gravel Driveway Maintenance in Ottawa
Driveway and Small Scale Road Remediation
Accessibility to your property is crucial, and there is nothing worse than a driveway or cottage road that is filled with potholes.
Whether you have a private road or small laneway, we are here to help bring it back to its former glory.
Ongoing Maintenance
Gravel laneways require on-going maintenance. The frequency of this maintenance depends on a number of factors.
- Does it have an appropriate base structure? (or was gravel simply placed on the existing topsoil without any base)
- Was it built with consideration for drainage?
- How much traffic will there be? 2 cars a day or 50?
- What types of vehicles? Passenger vehicles or commercial trucks?
Fixing a gravel driveway
While some laneways may experience more dramatic problems, most low volume laneways can be repaired with the following:
- Re-grading the existing laneway to remove potholes and smooth out the base
- Compact the existing base with a heavy vibratory drum roller
- Import and spread new gravel material
- A final compaction of the laneway to pack it all down.
How long will my gravel driveway last?
A well built gravel laneway for a single family home, frequented only by small cars and pickup trucks (i.e. no regular large trucks), this reinstatement work should easily last another 5-10 years, if not more. In some cases, more frequent maintenance might be required, particularly if there are soft soils or known drainage issues. With some guidance from us, we can help guide you on how to get the most out of your driveway with minimal on-going maintenance.
